Life Skills Training Program

PROJECT PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Education is the key component of Uganda's poverty eradication strategy, it's believed that through education, human capital is developed which in turn empower the poor to participate in the growth process of their societies.

However much as government is putting in efforts to improve the education levels of the citizens, there is an increasing number of children dropping out of school especially among the poor family and particularly the Girl child. According to the Nation service delivery survey, factors like poor health, early pregnancy and marriage among the girls contribute tremendously to the number of school dropouts in Busoga Districts Eastern Uganda, Jinja district in particular.

Very few programs have been developed to promote Vocational skills for the overwhelming number of school dropouts in Uganda more especially for the increasing number of girls dropping out of school in Uganda and Jinja district in particular.

Vocational education and training for such children increases their ability to acquire skills and hence develop and improve competencies which enable such children to find employment and manage to earn some income, hence increasing their opportunities to participation in Society.

This project Tap and Reposition Rural Women and Girls (TRRWGP) aims at enrolling school dropouts especially women and girls in the rural villages in Jinja , and also young girls who have just got married in the surround areas where the vocational school is located to enable them acquire skills in Tailoring and Craft Making.
